The story
None of this has been confirmed. Nobody has been brave enough to deny it.
He was born in a cardboard box behind a noodle shop, the smallest of seven. At eight weeks old he sublet the box. At ten weeks he bought the noodle shop, fired the owner and kept the recipe. The first million came before he was housebroken. The first hundred came before anyone thought to keep counting.
He has never fetched, never begged, never rolled over. A man once told him to sit. That man has been standing ever since. The chain is solid gold and no jeweller will admit to making it. He walked into a card game in Macau without it and walked out wearing it, along with the deed to the casino. The cap has never come off. Three people claim to have seen what's under it. They no longer speak. To each other, or at all.
There used to be other G's. A Doberman in Marseille. Two brothers out of Tijuana. A poodle in Moscow nobody mentions anymore. Some retired. Some are just gone. He went to every funeral and paid for most of them. He is the last one alive, and every other dog you have heard of is a house pet with a publicist.
And still everybody loves him. Doormen. Grandmothers. Customs officers. The police wave. Heads of state send birthday cards he does not open. Wolves cross the road when he walks. He has no enemies, because having one would require surviving the first meeting.
Nobody knows what the G stands for. A journalist asked him in 2021. The magazine closed that spring. There is one G. Everybody else is a bitch on a leash.
